An impact driver drives long and thick screws faster and with less strain on the hand than a drill. The bit holder is a 1/4" hex. An impact wrench (1/2" or 3/4" square drive) is for bolts and nuts, e.g., for changing wheels.

Models with multiple speed settings are suitable for both small and large fasteners.

A model with the letter Z (e.g., DHP486Z) is the tool only, without battery and charger. If you already have a battery from the same platform, this is the most cost-effective choice. Sets include batteries, a charger, and often a Makpac case.

You can get a 3-year warranty for a Makita tool by registering it in the MyMakita portal within 4 weeks of purchase. Batteries, chargers, and accessories are not covered by the extended warranty.
